The Creation of “Blue Suede Shoes” and Rockabilly history

This is the story of the legend behind the song “Blue Suede Shoes” as is remembered by Johnny Cash, members of Carl Perkins’ band, and Carl Perkins’ son. This video is 19 minutes long and is a documentary sponsored by a grant through the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. The documentary is being posted and was found due to the efforts of a member of the National Guard Old Armory Event Committee. The mission of The National Guard Old Armory Event Committee is to preserve the heritage, beauty, and usefulness of the historic National Guard Old Armory. In partnership with The Dalrymple Old Armory Foundation this committee seeks to pay tribute to past events that were vital contributors to the history of The National Guard Old Armory and the City of Amory and, in doing so, maintain funding for the future of The National Guard Old Armory building. The National Guard “Old” Armory is currently in the final stages of a complete remodel. It will soon be open for events to take place in and for new historical moments to occur. Enjoy!
